Past Events

Dearborn non-profit partners Littlefield Action for Social Justice (LA4SJ) and Homage to Black Excellence (H2BE) hosted a panel discussion called Celebrating Juneteenth in Dearborn: Why It’s Important with Black community activists and residents of Dearborn, who offered their insight, experience and varied viewpoints on what Juneteenth is, and why it’s important to publicly celebrate it as a community. About forty community members attended the event.

LA4SJ partnered with the Intercultural Community Center in Dearborn to raise funds for the Salina Green Schoolyards Initiative located in the Southend community of Dearborn. A recap video of the event can be found here.  Learn more about the initiative and support the effort here.

LA4SJ hosted a gratitude service to honor the legacy of Littlefield Presbyterian Church and a brunch to celebrate the LA4SJ volunteers. A recording of the service can be found here.

Our 2nd Annual Earth Day Sustainability Swap was a success! We were joined by Planet Detroit, EcoWorks DetroitMake Food Not WasteUoM Envir Interpretive Center, HFC Student Envir Assoc, Detroit Book City, Southend Dearborn advocates (Sue Stanley, Samra’a Luqman and Salah Ali) and Midtown Composting. We also had free Who Gives a Crap sustainable toilet paper rolls, a seed and plant swap and networking among community members who care about sustainability. 

Nineteen community members joined us for an Underground Railroad reenactment experience at the historic First Congregational Church in Detroit.
